How much muscle mass do you lose after 35?
On average, people lose about 30 percent of their muscle power between ages 50 and 70. But this doesn’t have to be; inactivity and too little protein hasten the process. Keep muscles healthy with regular strength training — a smart step that 79 percent of people in their 50s skip.

However, Pilates is effective at increasing muscle mass and building stronger and bigger muscles. And there are also many other factors that contribute to the increase of muscle mass.

Which muscle groups are targeted through Pilates?

Pilates targets a range of muscles and provides a true full body workout. Some examples of muscles that pilates are proven to affect include:

Core muscles
Oh yes, as you practice pilates get ready for a strong core! Each and every movement engages the core. But the core goes so much deeper than just your 6 pack.

Stabiliser muscles
Pilates movements prompt your body to engage your deep intrinsic muscles, such as multifidi and the transverse abdominis, which are the muscles that are used to stabilize your body. These muscles have the function of stabilizing your spine, pelvis, and core muscles.

Booty/Gluteus muscles
Pilates will target the area responsible for giving you a round, lifted booty. Pilates is an excellent option for toning the backside of your legs and tightening and lifting the glute muscles, which will give your booty a rounded and lifted appearance.

Inner thighs
Finding a workout that will target and burn your inner thighs can be pretty tricky, but Pilates has this issue solved. Many Pilates sessions target your adductor muscles effectively.

NOTE:
Remember you should always consult a physician before performing any new exercise.
